A Delhi court on Thursday summoned Deputy Commissioner Police (South) to appear before it for inquiry into the sting operation in the BMW hit-and-run case.

The court also summoned the managing editor of television channel NDTV and reporters to appear before it on Friday with un-edited copies of the sting operation on the alleged nexus between the prosecution and the defence in the case.

NDTV had on Wednesday night telecast a 'sting' operation where main witness Sunil Kulkarni is shown striking a deal with the prosecution and defence lawyers for refusing to identify Sunil Nanda, grandson of a former Navy chief, who is accused of running over and killing six persons while driving a BMW car nearly eight years ago.

The prosecution in the case received a setback on May 29 when Kulkarni told the court that it was not Sanjeev Nanda, the main accused, who was driving the car which mowed down six persons in 1999.

Kulkarni had told that it was a healthy and hefty man that emerged out of the driving seat of the car just after the accident and he was not present in the court. He, however, had admitted that Nanda was one of the occupants who alighted from the car just after the incident.

Kulkarni also virtually disowned his statement made to the police on March 31, 1999, in which he had identified Nanda at the Patiala House courts as the man who 'killed' six people by his rash driving.
