Complying with a court directive, gangster Dawood Ibrahim's sister Haseena Parkar, embroiled in a case of extortion, cheating and forgery, on Friday recorded her statement with the police to facilitate investigations.

Senior police officials said they began recording the statement of Haseena on Friday and will begin questioning her soon.

Haseena, dressed in a burkha and accompanied by another woman similarly dressed, refused to speak to reporters as she left the police office and boarded a taxi.

She was granted bail by a local court on Thursday after it ruled that there was a lack of evidence to show her involvement in a case of extortion made out against her.

The police had alleged that Haseena threatened real estate agent Vinod Avlani when he sought his money from two builders.

Avlani had complained to the police against eight persons after a deal of redeveloping two slums in Central Mumbai went sour.

The eight had failed to return Rs 30 lakh out of an advance of Rs 1 crore paid to them by the Ravi Group of builders.

Haseena, who is said to have mediated the deal, had allegedly told Avlani to "forget" the Rs 30 lakh and threatened him with dire consequences if he persisted with his demand for return of the money.
