Gujarat's CID (Crime), probing the alleged killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in a fake encounter in 2005, is keen to carry out forensic tests on the three senior IPS officers arrested in connection with the case.

These tests, including narco-analysis and brain-fingerprinting, could help the CID in speeding up its investigation, sources said in Ahmedabad on Friday.

With time being at a premium for the CID in view of the Supreme Court's directive to Gujarat to submit a final status report on the case within two weeks, the investigating agency is keen to carry out these tests, the sources added.

CID officials had on Thursday met personnel of the Directorate of Forensic ScienceĀ in Gandhinagar in this connection.

Officials believe that forensic tests on the accused IPS officials -- DIG (border range) D G Vanzara, SP Rajkumar Pandiyan and SP Dinesh Kumar MN of Rajasthan -- could throw more light on certain loose ends in the case, including the death of Sheikh's wife Kausar Bi.

According to the CID's interim report, all the three officials were present at Vishala circle on the outskirts of Ahmedabad when Sheikh was gunned down in November 2005.

Though CID officials are tightlipped about their probe, sources connected with the case indicated that the three IPS officers are not keen on undergoing the forensic tests.

Attention will now shift to the metropolitan court where the CID will produce the three IPS officials when their four-day remand ends on Saturday.
