Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday attacked Bharatiya Janata Party for disrupting Parliament on the Quattrocchi issue which, however, she did not refer to in her speech at the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting.
Party sources said Sonia, addressing the CPP, the first in the Budget session, faulted the main opposition for its stalling tactics in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
The BJP had stalled Parliament for a few days over the the Ottavio Quattrocchi issue in the wake of his detention in Argentina amidst opposition charges that the government had attempted a cover up on the matter.
Sonia underlined the need for the party to take appropriate lessons from the defeat in Punjab and Uttarakhand polls and gear up the organisation ahead of the Uttar Pradesh, Goa and Gujarat elections.
Complimenting partymen who worked for victory in Manipur, Sonia, who is also CPP chairperson, said that the party needed to find out the reasons for the debacle in Punjab and Uttarakhand.
Sources said that she was also appreciative of Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav for presenting General and Railway Budgets 2007-08 by focussing on the common man.
Referring to the Samjhauta Express blasts, she said that attempts to derail the peace process between India and Pakistan should be thwarted, the sources added.
