Senior Congress leader Karan Singh, considered one of the probable United Progressive Alliance candidates for the presidential polls, met Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief M Karunanidhi in New Delhi on Thursday after which he said he was available for the top job.

"If I am chosen as a consensus candidate, I feel it will be a great honour," Singh told media persons after his 30-minute long meeting with the Tamil Nadu chief minister.

Singh said he has been in the public life for more than 56 years and that his life was an open book.

"So, I am available if the nation needs me," he replied to a question on whether he was in the race for the presidential candidate.

The veteran leader also rubbished allegations that he was associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

"I was never a part of the VHP. I was a member of Virat Hindu Sammelan, which is an inter-faith movement. My approach has always been universal, so there should not be any confusion," he added.

On whether Karunanidhi supported him as a presidential candidate, he said: "I cannot say anything on that."

Karunanidhi had earlier in the day held separate consultations with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Left leaders to arrive at a consensus on United Progressive Alliance's nominee for the presidential post.
