The Bihar police will install a closed circuit television camera in Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Mohammed Shahabuddin's cell in Siwan jail and tighten the security following intelligence reports that Shahabuddin could escape.

"The move comes following a report from the Special Branch SP that he could try to escape from the jail," Siwan SP Sunil Kumar told rediff.com on Friday.

He said the Special Auxiliary Police have also been directed to keep a close watch.

However, the RJD has reacted sharply over the report. "Shahabuddin is a law abiding MP and he always respected the court," the RJD leader Shayam Rajak said.

Shahabuddin is currently lodged in Siwan jail after he was shifted from New Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences following a surgery in November.

In June, the state government had constituted a special court at Siwan to conduct the cases pending against Shahabuddin, involved in over 40 criminal cases, including murder, abduction and possession of illegal arms.
