Four Indians wanted by Interpol held in South Africa

Four Indian nationals on Interpol's wanted list have been arrested in Johannesburg, police sources said Friday. Arrested from the suburb of Booysens in Johannesburg, the four men face "interim charges" of being in South Africa illegally.

Three of the four men were wanted in India for a string of crimes including murder, extortion and the use of illegal firearms. Allegedly part of a gang that "terrorised" wealthy families, businessmen and journalists in India and extorted money from them, their names will be released only after they are brought to the court, sources said.

One of the arrested persons had been allegedly convicted for murder and sentenced to life imprisonment in India in 2003.
