Hours after her husband Pravin Mahajan was sentenced to life imprisonment by a sessions court in Mumbai, Sarangi, on Tuesday said she did not need help from the Mahajan family or the Munde family.

"I don't need any Mahajan or Munde. I am ready for the struggle and I have prepared my children for the same," said a consciously composed Sarangi.

"I will file an appeal in the high court. Right now my priority is to save my husband and look after my children, Kapil and Vrushali," she added, trying hard not to break down.

Pravin Mahajan was on Tuesday sentenced to a life term for murdering his elder brother and Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Pramod Mahajan on April 22, 2006. Pramod had succumbed to his injuries 12 days later at a city hospital.

Sarangi also said that she had full support from both her brothers Prasad and Shailendra Pulliwar, who stood by her throughout the trial.

"Whatever happens, I have to fight", she said.

When asked about future plans in politics, she said, "I have not yet thought about politics. But we have some money saved with which we can live comfortably".

She also expressed relief saying, "At least Pravin has not been awarded death".
