The Election Commission on Saturday night filed a complaint against Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Gujarat Education Minister Anandi Patel for violating the model code of conduct and slapping an EC official.

Campaigning for the second phase of the assembly election in north and central Gujarat ended on Friday, which will go to the poll on Sunday.

Anandi, who was distributing sarees to women in her Patan constituency on Saturday night, asked a few members of the public to swear before God that they would vote for the BJP.

When she saw an EC videographer recording this, she slapped him.

The EC has tagged all prominent contestants with videographers till voting ends in order to ensure that they don't violate the model code of conduct.

Anandi faces rebellion from the teaching community, who have been distributing leaflets asking people not to vote for her.

Anandi, who is a close confidante of Chief Minister Narendra Modi, is seen to be arrogant and her style of functioning is not liked within the party.
