A Delhi court on Tuesday reserved its judgment in the 10-year-old Uphaar fire tragedy. The fire, which killed 59 people, broke out during a film screening.
Additional Sessions Judge Mamta Sehgal, who heard the arguments on Monday, reserved the final verdict.
The court, however, did not fix a date for the judgment. Concluding final arguments, the Central Bureau of Investigation held theatre owners criminally responsible for the tragedy as the emergency safety measures were not in place.
Appearing for the agency, senior advocate Harish Salve said the people who were getting financial gains from the theatre's operation were culpable for the lapses.
The theatre had turned into a gas chamber where exit doors of the balcony were closed, leaving no scope for victims who died of asphyxia, he said.
