President APJ Abdul Kalam on Tuesday said he has not ruled out a second term in view of many people desiring him to continue in the office after his term ends in July.
In an informal chat with journalists on board the Air India special flight on way to Strasbourg, he, however, hinted that he was not averse to the idea but he was still thinking about it and said: "I will let you know what's on my mind on April 28 on return to India."
Dr Kalam, who embarked on a five-day visit to France and Greece, is visiting Strasbourg, the seat of the European Parliament and will become on Wednesday the first Indian President to address the European Parliament. Union Minister of State for Renewable Energy Vilas Muttemwar is accompanying him.
On the remission plea of the Parliament attack convict Mohd Afzal Guru, the President said it was for the Union government to take the decision. "Whatever recommendation comes on file, I will sign it," he said.
He, however, pointed out that the capital punishment was the harshest punishment and hence he would like a debate in the country on continuing the death sentence that is now not there in many countries.
On an MP's arrest for trying to smuggle a woman and a boy on his family members' passports, the President said there are both good and bad people as there were also Rajagopalachari and Kamraj if there were persons like Babubhai Katara. He said he believes there were more good people than bad people in the country.
