A three-and-half year old child of an oil exploration company manager was rescued by the police just 13 hours after his kidnap from Mumbai's western suburb.

Nihal Kolhapurkar was allegedly kidnapped by carpenters Bipin Singh and Raju Rajbhor from his playschool in suburban Malad at 1130 hours on Wednesday, police said on Thursday.

The duo fled with Nihal on a motorcycle and informed his mother about the kidnap and said they would call her again. During investigation, Nihal's mother mentioned about the carpentry work done at her residence last year by the accused, which led the police to Singh, who was one of the workers there.

"Following this, we raided Singh's shanty in Bhayander at around 0030 hours on Thursday and found the kid," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone XI) Makrand Ranade said.

Nihal was found sleeping in the hutment with Bipin while Raju was sitting outside. The boy seemed to have been treated well by his abductors, police said.

"The duo had decided to call the child's family and demand Rs 10 lakh as ransom but were arrested before they could do so," Ranade said.
