Suspected militants abducted Food Corporation of India Executive Director Phool Chand Ram from Guwahati around 1900 hours on Tuesday.

Highly-placed sources in Assam Police informed that the senior FCI official was abducted along with his official vehicle and the driver while he was returning to his residence from the FCI regional headquarter located along the busy Guwahati-Shillong road.

The police are not yet sure about the involvement of any particular militant group behind the abduction. Neither has anyone claimed responsibility for the abduction nor has any ransom demand been made.

Police informed that the official was staying alone in the city while his family resides in New Delhi. Police and the FCI regional office learnt about the abduction only after Ram had rung up his son in New Delhi from an undisclosed location asking him to inform to the Government of India about his abduction.
