Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called on President A P J Kalam on Tuesday and they were together for over half an hour, according a press communique issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan press secretary S M Khan.

President Kalam greeted Dr Singh on his birthday.

"The prime minister briefed the President on his recent visit to Cuba for the Non-Aligned Movement Summit and his meetings there with world leaders. The prime minister informed the President in detail about his discussions with Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf. He also briefed Dr Kalam about his visit to Brazil and his meetings with Brazilian leaders," the press statement said.

The President in turn told him about his recent visit to Tamil Nadu and Kerala, particularly his visits to districts of Ramanathapuram, Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli in the context of CII conclave held in regard to their growth potential, particularly in the field of Information Technology.

"The President also apprised the prime minister of his visit to Kudankulam Atomic Power Project," the statement said.

Khan denied that the meeting had anything to do with the appointment of the new foreign minister. "It was a courtesy call and nothing else," he said.

Dr Singh had announced during his three-nation visit recently that he felt the need for a full-time foreign minister and he would appoint one once he reached India.
