One person was killed and at least 35 people, including 3 Border Security Force personnel, were injured in a grenade explosion in north Kashmir's Sopore town.

Unidentified terrorists hurled a grenade at a paramilitary Border Security Force party in the main market of the town, 54 kilometres from Srinagar.

"32 civilians and three BSF troopers were wounded. The injured have been evacuated to the main hospital in Sopore town where five of the injured were referred to by the attending doctors for specialised treatment to the hospital in Srinagar city as they had sustained critical injuries," a senior police officer said in Sopore.

One of those injured succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Panic gripped the town as markets closed soon after the blast.

Senior police and paramilitary officers rushed to the spot and the entire area was cordoned off.

No separatist group has so far owned the explosion.
