The Delhi high court on Tuesday barred nursery schools from interviewing kids or their guardians.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Kailash Gambhir accepted the report of the Ashok Ganguly Committee, which it appointed.
The recommendations of the committee will be implemented from the next academic session on a trial basis.
While the high court did away with any form of interaction with even the guardians, it fixed a points system ranging from 1 to 100 on the basis of which the kids could gain admissions.
Stressing on the neighbourhood school model, the court said priority should be given to kids staying within 3 km radius of the schools for admissions.
Twenty points will be given to the kids living within the 3 km periphery of any nursery school, said the court.
The points decreases as the distance from the school increases. Wards of teachers and ex-students will get preference.
Schools have also been given the flexibility to give 20 points as per their parameters.
"A disabled student and a girl child will get benefit of five points each," said the court.
The bench fixed November 3 as the next date of hearing in the matter.
