ajor Pitambare hit a wall of the safe house in which the terrorist was hiding with the butt of his gun while searching for a possible hideout.
"The wall smashed abruptly and the terrorist fired a volley of bullets from inside on the Major. He received bullet injuries in his head," officials said, adding that the major died instantly.
The body of the 32-year-old Major, who always led his team from the front, was flown down from Srinagar to his residence in Thane, outside Mumbai, on Tuesday.
