With 9 more farmers committing suicide during the last 2 days, the death toll in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra has mounted to 1101, the convenor of Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti, Kishor Tiwari claimed on Thursday.

Despite all financial aid packages announced by the Centre and the state government, suicides by farmers have continued in the region, Tiwari told reporters in Yavatmal.

Meanwhile, the farmers across the region have extended their wholehearted support to the fast undertaken by the former Union Minister Mohan Dharia in Pune.

"Eighty two-year-old Dharia, despite his age and physical health, launched the indefinite fast for the cause of the debt ridden farmers. We are really indebted to him and would extend our heartfelt support to his cause," Tiwari said.

The Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti will launch a 'rasta roko' in Vidarbha in support of Dharia's fast unto death agitation, he said, adding that the farmers would resort to a dharna in every village from November 16.
