To seal or not to seal

November 04, 2006
The central government on Thursday said the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and police are of the opinion that it is difficult to carry out sealing in Delhi in the current tense situation.

The sealing drive will not begin before November 6, the government has said.

The government hurriedly introduced five bills listed for the day namely the Delhi Tibbia College (Takeover) Amendment Bill, The Delhi Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill, The Delhi Commission for Safai Karamcharis Bill and The Members of Legislative Assembly and Ministers (salaries and allowances) Bill.

The issue started with a Supreme Court order that asked the Centre to undertake a sealing drive against all those commercial establishments set up in residential areas of the capital.

The Centre has since been trying to pass various orders to stall the court order.
