Doctors and medical students have called all professionals to observe "civil disobedience" on Wednesday.
The doctors and students have been protesting against the government's proposal to reserve 27 per cent of seats in central educational institutions for candidates of Other Backward Classes.
"We are asking various groups such as traders, resident welfare associations, bank personnel and members of bar associations not to work from 9 am to 12 noon," Dr Vinod Patro, president of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences' Resident Doctors' Association, said.

The move is being supported by the Delhi Medical Association and the Indian Medical Association.
The DMA will also organise a dharna at AIIMS on Wednesday between 11 am and 5 am to support the medicos' agitation.
Patro said the medicos were planning to organise a Delhi Chalo rally on May 28.
Efforts are being made to garner support from all over the country for this rally. The rally is likely to be organised from Ramlila Maidan to Jantar Mantar.
About the walk-in interviews in hospitals for appointment of resident doctors, he claimed no interviews were carried out in GTB and DDU hospitals while only three-four candidates appeared in interviews at Maulana Azad hospital.
