The Lok Sabha was adjourned for 15 minutes on Monday, as an adamant Opposition sought discussion on the recent massacres in Doda and Udhampur districts, Jammu and Kashmir.
During question hour, despite pleas by Speaker Somnath Chatterjee to wait until zero hour, the Opposition, led by BJP deputy leader V K Malhotra, raised slogans against Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's reported remarks on the protests by victims of the massacre.
Praban Mukherjee, leader of the House, said that while the matter was very serious, it need not be taken up by suspending question hour. "It cannot be the subject of an adjournment motion. We have no problem in discussing the issue any time even today," he said.
However, BJP members refused to budge and trooped into the well, even as the Speaker assured them that a special discussion would be allowed immediately after question hour.
As they refused to return to their seats, Chatterjee adjourned the House for 15 minutes.
