Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh on Saturday accused the Centre and Jammu and Kashmir government of being soft towards terrorists and sending wrong signals to them by repealing the Prevention of Terrorism Act soon after it came to power.
"Two persons were killed and four others are seriously injured in Saturday's terrorist attack in Doda. We were holding the meeting of the party office bearers this morning at the party headquarters when the news came in about the hand grenade attack on the BJP members and the migrants in Doda. The state police did not provide them any protection. Leader of the Opposition L K Advani would visit the place of the incident on Sunday while I would go on May 15," he said at a press conference in New Delhi.
He expressed anguish on behalf of his party at the terrorist attack in Doda minutes after his party's workers took out a procession at the spot against the terrorist attacks in the region and demanding protection for them.
The processionists had fled their places after the terrorist attacks in Basantgarh in Udhampur in Jammu district and far flung villages in Doda on April 29 and April 30 respectively. While 13 Hindus were massacred by the terrorists in Basantgarh, 19 were killed in Doda.
He rejected Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's statement that BJP state unit had been responsible for the attack. "He cannot hide his face and shrug off his responsibilities. This is a baseless charge made by him. I have formed a seven-member committee to chalk out detailed programme for a nationwide agitation by the party on this issue," he said.
He charged the Central government of reducing the number of armed forces in the state and disbanding the special operations group and special task force created during the National Democratic Alliance tenure and merging them with the state police.
