Hizb commander arrested in Delhi

An area commander of pro-Pakistan Hizbul Mujahideen, who was planning terrorrist strikes in the capital during Navaratra season, has been arrested and a huge quantity of explosives seized from his possession, police said on Wednesday.

Twenty five-year-old Meharajuddin, who hails from Budgam in Jammu & Kashmir, was arrested on Tuesday night from Azadpur market by Delhi Police Special Cell seluths, Joint Commissioner of Police Karnal Singh said.

2 kg of RDX, a timer device, a detonator and a pistol have been seized from Meharajuddin, he said.

"He was planning to carry out a strike in the capital during the Navaratra season begining Thursday. We are interrogating him to elicit more information," Singh said.

Meharajuddin had crossed over to Pakistan in 2000 and received training in handling explosive materials and returned to India via Nepal recently. Since then he has been actively involved in terrorist activites, Singh added.
