The Delhi Police on Monday registered a first information report against those who fudged evidence in the Jessica Lal murder case.

A special team was set up to investigate the case.

A Delhi court had recently acquitted all those charged with the murder, including prime accused Manu Sharma, son of a Haryana minister.

A case under Section 120 of the Indian Penal Code for criminal conspiracy, for destruction of evidence and tempering with the evidence was registered.

It was also made clear that the police will also approach the Delhi high court against the acquittal of the nine accused, including prime suspect Sharma by the trial court.

Jessica's sister Sabrina Lal said she was satisfied with the bold stand taken by the cops.

Meanwhile, President A P J Abdul Kalam Monday promised to take all "necessary action" in the wake of public outrage over the acquittal of all the accused in the case.

He conveyed this to a delegation of NDTV journalists led by the channel's chief editor Prannoy Roy who submitted a petition to him from over 2,00,000 of its viewers requesting a re-trial in the sensational murder case.

National Human Rights Commission Chairperson Justice A S Anand on Tuesday said the acquittal of all the accused in the murder case raised many issues of great consequence on the role of civil society in punishment of crime and the need for witness protection.
