The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiv Sena have alleged that the mob violence was triggered when Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi reached Bhiwandi immediately after the police firing.

Azmi says he had gone to Bhiwandi to pacify the people, who were livid over the killing of two innocent people.

BJP leader Gopinath Munde has accused the Congress-led Democratic Front government of Muslim appeasement. That is why no action is being taken against the guilty, he has alleged.

The Congress government has announced a compensation of Rs 750,000 each to the families of the two constables killed and Rs 100,000 each for the two locals who lost their lives.

The locals are upset with the Nationalist Congress Party too because NCP leader Vasanth Dawkhare attended the bhoomi poojan of the outpost a month ago.
