93,903 people airlifted for Haj in first phase

Altogether 93,903 people, including 89 children and 269 infants, were airlifted by Air India, Indian Airlines and Saudia for Haj pilgrimage in the first phase of the operations, concluding Wednesday, an Air India spokesman said in Mumbai Tuesday.

Till January 2, the number of pilgrims carried were 93,545 adults, 89 children and 269 infants. The first phase began on December 3. I

In all, 323 flights were operated out of various points in India out of which Air India operated 105 flights, IA 30 flights and Saudia 188.

Air India operated 69 flights with its own aircraft and 36 with wet lease aircraft.

Air India had taken on wet lease two 747-300 aircraft with capacity of 419 and 470 passengers respectively, which joined the fleet on December 6 and December 28 respectively in 2005.

The return phase of Haj operations would commence from January 16 and continue till February 13, the Air India spokesman said.
