After voicing concern over the lack of satisfactory progress in poll revision in West Bengal, the Election Commission on Thursday decided to despatch its poll observers for the third time to the state, from March 1.

As many as 20 observers will visit the state in order to receive feedback from voters and political parties after the publication of the final electoral rolls on Wednesday, an EC spokesman said.

The observers will also look into other electoral issues like distribution of Electors Photo Identity Cards. They will submit a report and brief the full Commission on their return on March 9.

The Commission had said earlier that the exercise of deletion of names of dead and shifted voters would continue even after the final publication of rolls in the state. "Work in this respect was found to be far from satisfactory in municipal areas," it had earlier noted.

The final list of voters released on Wednesday showed that 12.98 lakh names have been deleted from the electoral rolls, which is four times the number of deletions as compared to 2004, when it was 3.47 lakh.
