Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Union minister Shatrughan Sinha on Tuesday backed senior party leader Lal Kishenchand Advani saying he could prove to be a 'very good prime minister of the country.'
"He (Advani) has got vision, experience, clarity and conviction, which are required of a great statesman. Given a chance, Advaniji can prove himself to be a very good PM of the country," Sinha told PTI when asked about Advani's statement that he would be prime ministerial candidate in the next general elections.
Sinha, however, refused to compare Advani with party stalwart and former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajapyee or anybody else for the top post.
The deputy prime minister in the erstwhile National Democratic Alliance government possessed great conviction and had stood by his statement on Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, Sinha said.
"While Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is running away from his statement at the National Development Council meeting that Muslims should have 'first claim', Advaniji is standing by his statement on Jinnah, nothwithstanding
controvesry generated over the matter," he said.
"I not only support him and am fond of him, but feel proud of him," Sinha said.
On Vajpayee, in whose ministry he served as Union health minister, Sinha said, "He is a father figure in BJP."
