Normalcy remained in the district, which witnessed large-scale violence since Wednesday following the reported desecration of Babasaheb Ambedkar's statue in Kanpur.

The situation in Nashik Road area, which saw large-scale violence, was under control with the Rapid Action Force holding a road-march there and in other areas like Vihitgaon and Jail Road, police said.

Several vehicles, including 15 state-run transport buses were damaged on Wednesday and all commercial activities ground to a halt after protesters came out into the streets decrying the statue's defacement.

According to Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation officials, city buses are plying as usual.

The Republican Party of India called for a bandh in Trimbakeshwar, Niphad and Lasalgaon towns, which is being observed peacefully, police said.

Activists will submit a memorandum to the Yeola and Satana tehsildars, they said.
