The many moods of Janmashtami
August 16, 2006
Devotees pray to Lord Krishna on the occasion of Janmashtami, in Amritsar, on August 16.
Janmashtami, which celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, falls on the Ashtami of Krishna Paksh or the 8th day of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhadon.
Celebrated across India, temples and homes are decorated, most often with diyas, and tableaux depicting stories from Lord Krishna's life. The special features are cribs, which are adorned festively.
