Ekka told Press Trust of India over phone that he was apparently the target of the extremists. Official sources confirmed the incident but could not say whether there were any casualties.

Ekka was on his way to lay the foundation stone of a school building and a road in his home constituency, Kolibira.
Senior police and district officials, including the Superintendent of Police Vinay Kumar Pandey, rushed to the spot, sources said.
