He attributes the absence of big idols and decrease in the number of workshops to industrial units that have come up in and around Pen.
"Idol-making is no more the sole source of income for residents of Pen. But some people like me and those working overtime to meet demand still do it for the love of it," he says.
The love of it. That might explain why the likes of Chandrakanth Patil sacrifice dahi handi celebrations so that Mumbai can celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with full vigour.
