Pen: Where Idols Are Born

Finding Deodhar's place is extremely easy. Everybody we meet on the way directs us to his place. But once there, finding the man himself is difficult. His workshop is locked and there is just one customer from Mumbai, also looking for him.

Getting edgy, our photographer Jewella decides to make the most of what is available. She begins shooting pictures from between the grills of a collapsible gate at the front of Deodhar's workshop.

A man in shorts and tees comes down the stairs, wanting to know who we are. "So, you just want to talk, you don't want any idols, right?" he asks.

Then, he sees the man outside and tells him Deodhar will be back only the next day.

He opens the door for us.

"Hi, I am Deodhar. We don't do business today and my wife said I could meet you if it was just for an article," he says, leading us into his office.
