Outlawed National Liberation Front Tripura gunned down a man and his daughter, injured three others of the family and abducted an old person at Kanchanpur in Tripura's Dhalai district Sunday night, police said in Agartala Monday.
Heavily armed NLFT militants attacked the house of one Anil Sen and sprayed bullets from their automatic weapons indiscriminately killing him and his 26-year old daughter on the spot. Sen's wife and another daughter and a one-and-a-half-year-old child were seriously injured in the attack and later shifted to hospital.
The militants before leaving the spot abducted a retired police home guard from a nearby village.
Security forces, led by Superintendent of Police Arindam Lodh, have rushed to the spot and launched a combing operation to nab the militants.
Police said the ultras had given a notice to Sen a few days back asking him to give them a huge subscription.
Meanwhile the opposition Congress has called a 12-hour bandh in the Ambassa Sub-Division Monday to protest the killing.
State Congress spokesman Ratan Chakraborty said in Agartala that the Left Front government had failed to protect the lives and properties of the people of the state even as the state government claimed that the law and order situation had improved.
