Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil has said that the investigations of the Delhi police into Saturday's blasts are 'headed in the right direction'.

Speaking to the press after a Cabinet meeting held at 7, Race Course Road, Patil said that the death toll is 59 and about 200 people have been injured. Apart from ministers, the meeting was attended by the chiefs of the Intelligence Bureau and the Research and Analysis Wing, and the Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul.

They gave Prime Minister Manmohan Singh a detailed account of Saturday night's events and also on how the investigations are being handled.

Patil refused to divulge any details about the investigations or comment about the Inquilab group, which has claimed responsibility for the attack.

He repeatedly assured people that the situation in Delhi is under control and the government will ensure that the festivals of Diwali and Eid will pass off peacefully.
