'Don't send money. Send engineers'

In Kamlakote and Bandi, the most heart-wrenching story is that of Maulvi Hasan.

Maulvi's granddaughter Masooda tells rediff.com, "My grandpa was 80 years old. He was dying. 40 family members and neighbours were by his deathbed, on the first floor of our three-storey home. As the earthquake hit, he breathed his last." She uses her hands to describe how his last moment coincided with the earthquake's arrival.

Masooda was unconscious under the debris for an hour. Her brother rescued her. Along with Maulvi, his wife and 17 others died. A week later, the place stinks. Masooda says the dust made their lives miserable in the first hour. Now, they have nothing to do but close their eyes and try sleeping.

From right sitting is Masooda.
