'Don't send money. Send engineers'
Many of the army's barracks in Uri are completely ruined. Eight days after the quake, a gigantic attempt by the army is underway, rebuilding its own base while provide assistance to people in their time of despair.
At most places, people say that if the Government of India (the Central government) sends money to the state government, there is no hope. Gulam Kadir Sheikh, working at J &K Bank says, "Please give money to the army alone. Better still, don't send money. Send engineers. Ours is a state of corruption."
Also touring Uri is Mujataba Farooque, Assistant General Secretary of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. "We never expected the Indian Army to do so well," he tells rediff.com. "They have helped people in this crisis."
