A Legend Comes to New York
BK S Iyengar, who was introduced to the West by violin virtuoso Yehudi Menuhin in the early 1950s, sowed the seeds of yoga in America, particularly with the publication of Light on Yoga in 1966.
He is responsible for making yoga a global phenomenon, which is practiced today by an estimated 16 million people.
Iyengar has a long list of celebrity disciples. For Hollywood actresses Annette Bening and Ali McGraw, supermodel Christy Turlington and fashion diva Donna Karan he is their revered guruji.
