Controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Parliament, Mohammad Shahabuddin was externed on Thursday from his home district of Siwan for nearly three months in connection with a case against him under the Crime Control Act. He is on the run in connection with eight non-bailable arrest warrants.

Siwan District Magistrate Santosh Kumar Mal, who had reserved judgement after completion of hearing in the case on September 29, passed the order on Thursday, banning Shahabuddin from entering Siwan till December 20.

However, the DM in his order, allowed Shahabuddin to surrender in Siwan during the duration of the ban with no more than five persons, after taking permission from the administration beforehand. This is the second externment order against the MP this year.

In mid-February the then Siwan district magistrate, C K Anil, had banned him from the district for six months under CCA.

The order was later quashed by Saran division commissioner C Lal Sota in May. Patna High Court had on August 18 quashed the arrest warrant by the Siwan district magistrate against the MP in connection with the proceedings under CCA.

It had, however, allowed the district magistrate to conclude the proceedings initiated by him against Shahabuddin under CCA within a month and to pass an order.

Mal had, on June 22, ordered the arrest of Shahabuddin for his repeated failure to appear in court to present his views on the CCA imposed by Anil, his predecessor, following recovery of arms and ammunitions, unaccounted foreign currency and a deer during raids on his ancestral house at Pratappur on April 22.
