Extradited gangster Abu Salem, who kept hiding in various countries for long, gets nostalgic about Mumbai and his family members.

"It's natural when you are away from home and family for that much long," CBI officials interrogating Salem said.

"He gets emotional at the mention of his family members during the course of interrogation. He recalls memories of his father, who was an advocate back in Sarai Meer in Azamgarh district of UP, and how he dropped out of school after 9th standard to make a fortune at Mumbai," agency sources said.

"Salem's eyes get wet when there is a mention of his eight-year-old son from his first marriage, who now stays in the US", sources said. Salem has not met him for years but could not do so since he was arrested in 2002 and was on the run before that, they added.

Salem has been on the run since 1993 bomb blasts.

The sources said despite being on the run, Salem has maintained good health and his medical examination shows that he does not suffer from any kind of ailment.

"He is being offered regular food and has himself not made any demand for any particular choice of food," they said.
