Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Parliament from Bihar Mohammed Shahabuddin, wanted in several cases, was on Saturday arrested from his official residence in Delhi by a Bihar police team.

Shahabuddin had at least eight non-bailable arrest warrants pending against him, mostly those relating to seizure of foreign-made firearms, ammunition and unaccounted foreign currency during a raid on his Pratappur house in April.

Shahabuddin was arrested on the basis of a tip-off by the Delhi police to the Bihar police team camping in the capital. He had been on the run ever since Chief Judicial Magistrate of Siwan A K Bariar had issued a non-bailable warrant against him in an arms recovery case in September.

The RJD MP was externed from the district October till December 20 by District Magistrate S K Mal apprehending breach of peace during the ongoing Bihar elections and his name was also deleted from the voters list for remaining absent from the place of residence for more than six months as per the instruction of the Election Commission.

Meanwhile, the third phase of polling to the Bihar assembly gets underway on November 13, 2005, in which polling will be held in 57 contituencies.
