India, US must overcome mutual suspicions and mistrust: Cohen

India and the United States must overcome mutual suspicions and mistrust to collaborate and cooperate with each other in facing common challenges of the world, former US Secretary of Defence Willian S Cohen said on Tuesday.

"The challenge before us today is how to collaborate and cooperate with each other to face common dangers and challenges that are erupting all over the world. It is all the more necessary for the two countries to come together because we share the same ideology," he said at a function organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries in New Delhi.

He pointed out that there were 80,000 Indian students studying in the US, which showed the importance of the ralations between two countries.

Raytheon International President Trokel Patterson said it had become imperative to include India in the portfolio of the Security Council.

Patterson said the US Navy was the first to reach out during the devastating December 26 Tsunami. USIBC President Ron Somers said there were many fields in which India and US could collaborate, including biotech, research and development, a CII release said.
