The Election Commission has decided to hold the assembly elections in Bihar in the months of October and November.

The commission issued a three-page note in this regard at the end of a marathon full commission meeting headed by Chief Election Commissioner B B Tandon.

The commission said that it would be able to complete the elections before November 22.

The meeting was convened to discuss the report of the observers who had visited Bihar for three days, Anand Kumar and S K Mehndiratta.

They had submitted their report on Monday.

The commission had also called for a report from the Indian Meteorological Department to decide the timing of the Bihar elections.

While Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal wanted the elections to be held after the monsoon, the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies had impressed upon the commission to hold elections before the monsoon and before September 6 when President's rule in the state would complete six months.

The commission expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements made during the assembly elections in February and said the same would be followed.
