Do you think the issue of political appointments needs to be looked into? Something needs to be done?

No, no, I don't think so. Unless there is a very strong case made out by way of convention. When did the trend start? The trend of dismissing governments, appointing governors.

I don't think there are easy solutions. Even if a non-politician was the governor in Goa, you never know how he would have reacted to the situation.

A year ago did you think you would be in Mumbai's Raj Bhavan as governor?

I did not. I had absolutely no idea.

It is widely accepted you were one of the few chief ministers to have provided a good, clean, able administration. Yet, when the public mandate did not favour you, what are the thoughts in your mind?

If I have done good work in Karnataka, how is it that the people did not support me to the extent which I had expected?

If the Congress party gained a clear majority there, the question of me coming to Maharashtra, perhaps, would not have arisen.

Anyway, I have landed in Mumbai, sitting in Raj Bhavan, the beautiful surroundings of Raj Bhavan.

Does good governance make bad politics?

Well…
