Congress president and United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday visited Bavari village and paid her condolences to the kin of a victim of the recent police firing on agitating farmers in Tonk District.

Gandhi, who flew in a chopper from Jaipur, drove to Prakash's house and spent some time with his family.

She then left for Jhirana, where she is expected to meet the families of three others who were killed in the June 13 police firing on agitating farmers.

Five persons, including a woman, were killed in Sohella village in Tonk district when police fired on agitating farmers demanding adequate water for crops.

Gandhi is also scheduled to go to Sohella and meet the mother of the woman killed in the firing and visit the Tonk District Hospital to meet the persons injured then.

Hundreds of villagers turned up at the Bavari helipad to catch a glimpse of the Congress leader, who is on a one-day visit to the desert state.

Earlier Gandhi arrived at the Sangner airport in Jaipur amid tight security.

Rajasthan police made elaborate security arrangements for her visit, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Nawdeep Singh said.
