Former Indian cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, endearingly known as Tiger Pataudi, is in trouble for allegedly poaching a black buck and two hare during one of his shooting expeditions in Jhajhar, Haryana.

Pataudi faced arrest on Monday night with the postmortem report confirming that the killed animals found in the vehicle he was travelling were endangered black buck and two rabbits.

Speaking to rediff.com, Hanif Qureshi, superintendent of police of Jhajhar, confirmed that the incident had taken place and Pataudi, along with eight others, has been booked under various provisions of the Wildlife Act.

"Yes, I can tell you that the said incident took place. The shooting of the black buck and two hare took place in a village called Birhor in Jhajhar town. Others who have been booked include Dayal Singh of Vasant Vihar, New Delhi, Sashi Singh of Bullandshahar, Uttar Pradesh and Madan Singh of Jhajhar, who was the host in this case," he said.

Asked how Tiger Pataudi was allowed to proceed to Delhi when the offence was non-bailable in nature, Qureshi said he was not sure if the offence was non-bailable.

"I have just returned from leave and I am looking into the incident. Station house officer of Jhajhar police station Sumit Kumar is investigating the case. We are coordinating with the wildlife officials too," he said.

Pataudi could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
