Six Indian American kids make it
to Round 7 at National Spelling Bee

Six Indian Americans made it to Round 7 at the 78th Scripps National Spelling Bee going on in Washington D.C . today.

 

Only Bonny Jain (No 71) of Illinois missed her word, periegesis, spelling it periogesis instead.

 

A total of 26 participants made it to the seventh round.

 

Anurag Kashyap (no. 20) of California, Rajiv Tarigopula (139) of Missouri, Arjun Modi (149) of New Jersey, Saptarishi Chaudhari (185) of Ohio, Nikhil Koganti (236) of Texas and Samir Patel (238) of Texas, made it to the next round with correct answers.

 

Beginning with Kashyap, the Indian American kids got words as varied as prsociutto, gomphosis, gnotobiotic, faveolate, valkyrian and filiciform.

 

The seventh round is currently in progress and so far, Kashyap has got his word right again, rideau.

 

The contest is being telecast live on ESPN.
