Two bombs went off within fifteen minutes of each other near the high security Republic Day parade venue in Assam's capital Guwahati on Wednesday. Two people were injured in the second blast, although the parade went off as planned.

The bombs are suspected to have been planted by militants of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom.

The first blast occurred at 08.45 am, a minute after Assam Chief minister Tarun Gogoi's cavalcade arrived at the Judges Field, the venue for the parade.

At 9 am, even as Assam Governor Ajai Singh was about to take the salute, another blast occurred less than 200 metres away, injuring two by-standers.

The area which houses the Gauhati high court, quarters of high court judges, the Guwahati circuit house, the district collector's and the city SP's offices had been supposedly sanitised over the past three days.
