A record 1.2 lakh people visited Mughal Garden in the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday, the highest ever number of visitors in a single day since it was thrown open for public viewing.

The garden was open to public for about a month for the first time during the tenure of the first president, Dr Rajendra Prasad, and since then it has been a big attraction for people in Delhi and other parts of the country.

"This time it has received unprecendented number of visitors since it opened on 11th February. So far about 2.5 lakh people have visited the garden," Rashtrapati Bhavan press secretary S M Khan said.

He said the Mughal Garden and its adjacent Herbal Garden are open for public viewing untill March, 13, 2005.

The garden is closed every Monday for maintenance.
