An Israeli defence company has won the contract to supply 20 Derby missiles and six practice missiles for the Indian Navy's Sea Harrier aircraft.
Rafael Armament Development Authority Ltd won the tender worth $ 25 million.
The missiles, which can be fired beyond visual range, are designated for Indian Navy's Sea Harrier vertical takeoff planes stationed on aircraft carrier INS Viraat.
With a maximum range of 20 km and flying speed of Mach 1.2, the Derby missiles can lock in on the target even before being launched or shortly after its launch.
A delegation from the Indian Navy currently visiting Israel is likely to sign the contract, defence sources told PTI.
The Israeli company will also supply racks and trailers for transferring and installing the missiles, besides sending experts to train the Indian Navy in its maintenance and operation.
The details of the negotiations are said to have been worked out towards the end of last month.
The supply of the system will take between three and four years, the sources said.
